Evil<\/em> <em><br \/>\n<\/em>Sloan, <em>The Double Cross<br \/>\n<\/em>Real Estate, <em>Days<br \/>\n<\/em>Chad VanGaalen, <em>Diaper Island<br \/>\n<\/em>Battles, <em>Gloss Drop<br \/>\n<\/em>Tim Heidecker, <em>CAINTHOLOGY: Songs in the Key of Cain<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Records that were better than I might reasonably expect:<\/strong><em><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/em>Drake<em>, <em>Take Care<\/em><br \/>\n<\/em>Burzum, <em>Fallen<\/em><br \/>\nThe AWOLNation thing<br \/>\nThe <em>Homefront &#8211; Songs for the Resistance <\/em>soundtrack (the latter half is way better than the first, though)<br \/>\nThe new Primus record actually wasn&#8217;t bad, but don&#8217;t ask me how I know<\/p>\n<p><strong>Records I still need to get around to from 2011:<\/strong><br \/>\nNew Tom Waits<br \/>\nGiles Corey s\/t<br \/>\nProbably the Jay-Z \/ Kanye thing at some point<em>, but meh.<br \/>\n<\/em>And about five dozen others I probably read about, got excited about, and forgot about<em>.<br \/>\n<\/em>Hey, there was a new Bill Callahan in there somewhere, I think?<em><br \/>\n<\/em>I should probably also finish a whole Tyler the Creator-related record someday before he&#8217;s totally irrelevant. <em><br \/>\n<\/em>And I also asked for the Weird Al live Bluray for Xmas, but didn&#8217;t get it. So. <em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Big disappointments:<\/strong><br \/>\nHeidecker and Wood, <em>Starting from Nowhere <\/em>(not that it will stop me from idolizing either of these two fine gentlemen)<br \/>\nLow, <em>C&#8217;mon <\/em>(apt title, that)<br \/>\nI finally got around to listening to Bon Iver. Yeah, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>no<\/em><\/span>.<br \/>\nAnd who the fuck are all these people who think Adele is omg so awesome? She&#8217;s like one notch more musically interesting than Susan Boyle. I&#8217;m not sure who is worse&#8211; them, or the Bon Iver people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Resolutions for myself:<\/strong><br \/>\nMake a helluva lot more music, and make it a helluva lot better this time, punk.<br \/>\nLearn to code so you can make cool music stuff, y&#8217;doofus.<br \/>\nFinally learn the frickin&#8217; pedal steel; also, the fiddle (note: NOT the violin).<br \/>\nLearn about alternative vocations that are actually <em>useful <\/em>to society at large.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposed resolutions for the record industry, of which I am not really a part, but it&#8217;s always nice to dream:<\/strong><br \/>\nLet&#8217;s get back to not mastering everything to 0dB every time, all the time.<em><br \/>\n<\/em>Let&#8217;s also stop rehashing everything that&#8217;s ever been done ever with a fresh, proud coat of Autotune on top.<br \/>\nAlso, please die a horrible, horrible death.<br \/>\n(note: I have also made these same three proposed resolutions every year since roughly 1999)<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Things I look forward to in 2012:<\/strong><br \/>\nNot a whole lot, honestly.<\/p>\n<p>Happy strictly-arbitrary new calendar year! May our truly chaotic universe with its strictly-arbitrary economy and ultimately meaningless existence find you all well, or at least believing that you are well.
